Happy Birthday Murphy Bartling and College group 80's night

Whenever I travel and come back home there is always one or two groms that get like 10x better from the last time you have seen them in the water. From the beginning of summer Wedge rat Murphy Bartling and one of his best friends Max Russell have gotten really good really quick which is one of the raddest things to see. They both are going to spend some time this winter in Hawaii which I am REALLY pumped about because both of these kids are pretty amped on barrels and getting big waves. Murphy just turned 18 I wanted to give him some love on the blog and say HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Be on the look out for Murphy and Max!

Last night for college group the guys through an 80's night theme for the girls. It was sick! If you live in Long Beach or by the area stop by my church from 6-9 for the community carnival tomorrow! Its gonna be rad and I will be helping out all night! Whatever you decide to do tomorrow be safe and have a blast!

Robin Sharma Book, GT stops by,School and Brian Kuceras bday

I recently finished The Greatness Guide II by Robin Sharma. Robin is one of my all time favorite authors. This is the third book I have read by him and can't wait for the next one. Here is a cool paragraph from the book, "How can you get better if you don't practice? Success doesn't just occur. Brilliant results don't just show up by chance. Last week I finished my MKT 441 class! I did really well in the class and the next day I started two new classes, MKT 445 and MKT 498. These classes should be challenging but im stoked! Only two more classes once I complete these two classes that I am currently in.

Guilherme Tamega and his family were in town for a holiday. GT and the fam stopped by my house and my dad and I took him and his family out to eat. It was a sick time to catch up with him and meet his wife, kids and mother in law. The next event he will be in is in the Canary Islands, should be insane!

The Wysocki family is one of the raddest families on the planet for sure and when I got the invite from Matty Watson and them to check out Ben at his football game Friday night I was stoked! I have promised Ben that I would see him play for years and now I was finally able to make it! This is Ben's senior year and is killing it! He has a bunch of colleges looking at him but will most likely choose UCLA. His High School is good and smoked the other team last night. Im stoked to be around town to watch his game and can hopefully make more of them which would be sweet! I love being around competitive atmospheres because they always fire me up to want to do more in my own sport and try harder! Plus hanging out with his dad David is always all time because he has so much advice and insight for me on top of loads of encouragement. It is definitely a HUGE blessing!

I use to take Ben to the beach when he was a grom. As you can tell he is not such a grom anymore haha YEAH 54!

After the football game my best friend invited me to go play broom ball with him and some of his friends. It was a sick time and if you have never done it get a group of people together and do it! Super fun!

The waves have been really fun lately and I have been getting in the water two to three times a day pretty much every day. I bodyboard alone a lot and don't mind to at all but this session down south I cruised with my friend Dustin and Alex filmed. I ran into a bunch of friends that I haven't seen for a while and it was rad to see them all ripping!

Nick Arant is one of the people I bodyboard most frequently with at home and his style reminds me SOO much of Mark Klein. Sick cutty.

She Sevilla is from Hawaii and is someone that gets me stoked to surf. He has this vibe that automatically makes everything really funny and care free. Im already a pretty weird kid but when I hang out with Shea in the water im even weirder than normal which is hard to believe haha On top of being such a cool guy to hang out with he rips to

Chris Taloa getting a sick one! I really like bodyboarding with Taloa because if he likes something I did he will tell me and if he didn't like what I did he will tell me but also provide advice and feedback on how to not make the same mistake or how I can make something look better. Getting advice like that from someone who has been in the sport as long as him is priceless. Thanks Chris!

Haircut, New Zinka product and David Phillips

When I got home from my trip to Indonesia my hair was pretty out of control and getting long. My dad likes my hair short and always want's me to buzz it. There is a barber shop right by my house that I skate to after some of my trips. This barber shop is pretty rad and some of the people have lived in Long Beach all there life and love talking about the "old days" The people that cut hair are surfers and get so siked on telling me about waves they have caught and adventures they have been on back in the day. It's a cool place and is usually crowded. I picked the oldest guy there because he had no one in his chair and there were tons of people waiting for the other barbers to cut their hair. When I got in the chair I just told him to buzz it all off. My dad never thinks I would shave my head so I was really excited to shock him! The old barber gave me a bowl cut, mow hawk and other weird styles. Everyone waiting to get their haircuts were cracking up and it was fun to share about my trip and reflect on all the epic times I had with my friends. In the end the hair was buzzed my dad was happy and I actually like it a lot!

My friend D-Phil just put together this clip of him and it is hands down one of my favorite from this year. I have said in previous blogs how un-rated David is and traveling with him on multiple trips and seeing him rip daily is super motivating. Im stoked this clip is out to the public so people can see how good D-Phil is. I sent the clip to a lot of my friends and one of the best stand up jr surfers in the world Kolohe Andino wrote to me and said the clip and double reverse rolls was, "The sickest thing i have ever seen!!" Pretty sick claim and other people wrote how amped it gets them to bodyboard! Keep an eye out for D-Phil in 2011 and enjoy the clip!

15 hour layover in Taiwan Taipei

We had a 15 hour lay over in Taiwan Taipei. We decided to get out of the airport and see the city. We took a taxi and got dropped off in the middle of the city which was kind of gnarly. We stayed and this super nice hotel and cruised all around the city, ate great food, and relaxed a bit. It was perfect right before a 13 hour flight to LA. Epic times in Taiwan!

Indo trip photos

I was in Indo the last three weeks and I had a blast. We got fun waves and the crew of guys were rad. Check out the new SURGE online magazine and BODYBOARDER magazine for some coverage of the trip and probably a few sponsor ads!
